Fuse Fest - what's it all about?

Fuse Fest brings together a variety of rappers, singers and comedians for anyone who loves live entertainment.

The night will have acts from people who, aside from being amazing performers, are also Muslims. But it’s not about showcasing ‘Muslim culture’, but rather, getting together a group of artists who enjoy spitting rhymes, or telling jokes and are really good at it. It’s about getting past the potential 'faith' label and enjoying these people for something else that truly defines them - raw talent. So, if you like live music or stand-up comedy or just a wicked atmosphere on a Friday night, come along and get involved. Starts from 7 and entry is FREE!

Fuse Fest is being held as part of a campaign to challenge stereotypes surrounding what it means to be Muslim. It aims to get people (Muslims as well as non-Muslims) thinking about what they consider to be ‘Muslim’ and challenge their view of what defines 'normal'.

At the core of the campaign is the idea that whether or not someone's a Muslim, they are defined by who they are, not what they are.  A Muslim's faith informs their everyday life, but does not give specifications as to what they are like as a person.  Muslims are just as varied, fun, outgoing, artistic, independent, eccentric or just plain normal as anyone. And although this may sound obvious, sometimes the obvious must be pointed out. Plus, it’s an excuse for a festival!

The campaign is called ‘Muslims – Normal Too’, as part of the Channel 4 Battlefront project. To find out more, see videos and blogs, and become a member just visit the website.
